Moving from Wimbledon to Battersea

For those who have been following Timber Windows for a while, you may have noticed that we no longer have a showroom in Wimbledon. An opportunity arose in 2023 to move to a central location on Northcote Road, Battersea. Today we will take a deeper look into this and the reasons behind this change.

For homeowners in London, and around the Wimbledon area especially, our service still very much extends to your locality, and we hope the below gives some insight into the change and how it benefits everyone.

Our Wimbledon Showroom

We first opened the doors to our Wimbledon showroom in 2012, on the corner of Haydons Road and Kingsley Road. The showroom was our first in the area at the time, allowing us to serve all Southwest London, including the popular districts of Kingston, Richmond, Kensington and Croydon. For many years, through our Wimbledon showroom, we had the pleasure of working on numerous wonderful projects, from single doors to full London townhouses.

We then further increased our presence in this part of London, by opening our second showroom local to the area in Esher in 2017. The Esher showroom gave homeowners further West of London to visit a showroom local to them, while the same team looked after both locations, giving homeowners assurance that they were speaking to local experts who knew their area well.

So Why Move?

The decision to move from Wimbledon to Battersea took careful planning, and consideration of all potential options, before selecting the one most suitable for us. For those who are frequent visitors to Battersea, you will already be familiar with Northcote Road; a popular, half mile long street full of local cafes, shops, restaurants, antique centres and so on. It is known locally as ‘Nappy Valley’, due to its vibrant culture and bustling shopping scene. Having worked in and around this area of London for many years, we were already very familiar with Battersea, and particularly, Northcote Road and were very fond of the area.

A large shop unit became available in the middle of Northcote Road, at number 133, in 2023. Sitting on the corner of Northcote Road and Kelmscott Road, this large unit sits opposite local estate agents, Rampton Baseley and opposite Bayfields Opticians.

At a similar time to when this unit became available, a car crashed into our Wimbledon showroom. Thankfully no one was hurt! However, it did cause our showroom to close for a while understandably due to the extensive repair works needed. This, combined with spotting the opportunity that had opened up in Battersea, only a few miles down the road, we feel gave us the perfect opportunity and timing, to make the move from Wimbledon to Battersea. Having the opportunity to be a part of the vibrant shopping atmosphere in Battersea, while still being local to our original location, was the perfect opportunity.

Our Battersea Showroom

Moving to the heart of Battersea on Northcote Road, allowed us to open a larger showroom, with a greater display of our windows and doors, suited to London properties. Victorian and Edwardian sash windows, including one with a Tombstone glazing bar design is on show, in addition to beautiful townhouse style front doors, with bespoke stained-glass designs. Regardless of the style and age of your home, we can tailor our range to provide the most authentic, and suitable windows and doors that will enhance its value and beauty.

Battersea’s proximity to Wimbledon, and the showrooms’ location on Northcote Road being nearby to Clapham Junction tube station allow us to serve the same areas as before with our Wimbledon showroom, while being even closer to the local boroughs of Streatham, Clapham and Putney. With Northcote Road almost being a tourist destination of sorts, due to its vibrant shopping scene, we feel this allows our new showroom to be convenient to find and visit, via train, car, bus, or even by walking past (look for the large Farrow & Ball mural on the wall diagonally opposite the showroom).
