What sets the Timber Windows range apart?

For those considering new windows and doors, there are no shortage of options on the market for homeowners. This is in regard to both suppliers, and the material options available. It can be quite a daunting prospect, as replacing your windows and doors is not a regular occurrence (or at least should not be), and on the face of it, a window looks like a window, and a door, a door. Yet there is so much more to fenestration, and the fine details and key manufacturing differences are what set products from different manufacturers apart.
So, with the Timber Windows range, what really sets us apart? Why should you consider engineered timber over alternative materials such as PVC or aluminium, or even a local joiner for example? Product development and improvement is at the forefront of everything we do at Timber Windows. We take a proactive approach, and experiment with ways we can make improvements or changes to our products to ensure they are performing to their maximum ability for the benefit of our customers. Below are a few key features of our range of windows and doors, and if you are thinking of replacing your windows and doors soon, we hope this gives you some insight and factors to consider about your home and current windows and doors, and what to look for when exploring your options.

Micro-porous paint combined with extensive colour options
Every window and door we manufacture is factory painted prior to final assembly. There are 4 steps in our painting process. Firstly, all products receive a base coat of timber preservative, followed by a primer coat. They are then sprayed with 2 coats of micro-porous paint. Micro-porous paint is a more breathable form of paint, allowing moisture to escape, rather than build up beneath the surface. As your windows and doors are exposed to the elements all year around, micro-porous paint is ideal for longevity, and helping to prevent rotting, peeling or blistering.
The Timber Windows range is also available in an almost unrivalled colour selection compared to the wider UK market. In addition to any RAL Colour, we are also able to offer colours complementary to those from leading paint brands such as Farrow & Ball, Fired Earth and Little Greene. Any colour can be closely matched, using our micro-porous paint system, so you can match your interior décor with the colour of your front door for example, with the reassurance that the paint is built to withstand the elements. Such is our confidence; we offer a 12-year guarantee on the paint finish (with up to 6 years on stained finishes). Dual colouring is also possible, allowing the internals of your new windows and doors to complement your interior style if desired.

Internally beaded glass and rebated beads
A key feature across our range is all glass is internally beaded. Here, the glazing beads which are the timber cassettes that hold the glass in place, are located inside the window frame. In contrast to externally beaded glass, which is the more commonly adopted glazing method you will find across timber alternative options, our internal beading offers superior security, as the glass is held from the inside, and therefore a would be intruder cannot remove the glass from the outside without breaking it. Security has always been a key concern for homeowners and this small difference in the beading provides a substantial improvement.
In addition to our internal beading method, we rebate the glazing beads over the sash where we conceal the joint, which helps preserve the paint finish further.

Neat, coloured silicone seals
Our timber windows are manufactured with purpose made grooves on both the internal and external face. All are then applied with silicone to protect against water ingress. Coloured or clear silicone is applied depending on the colour finish of your window to ensure a complementary match and guaranteeing a perfect, unobtrusive seal.

Superior ventilation channels, spacer bars and trickle vents
Within our double-glazed units, there are ventilation channels which help to ensure the longevity of our double-glazed units. In years past, this was often a problem with double glazed windows, as misting would occur where water was trapped within the frame and had no escape. This misting then contributed towards a larger fault and ultimately, failure within the whole unit. Our windows are also manufactured incorporating warm edge spacer bars which work to minimise heat loss and combat condensation on the inner pane. In a previous article we spoke about condensation in greater depth, and how condensation on the inner pane of a window is a sign of a failure of the wider window unit, which would need replacing.
In addition to these ventilation channels, where required, we also have a concealed, flush trickle vent system. We go into more detail about this here. Not every home will require trickle vents of course, however, for those that do, our trickle vent system is not the usual, white, bulky plastic add on you often see on PVC Windows. Our concealed system features a grill on the external face of the window, concealed under the head drip, and a button operated system on the inside that is finished in the same colour as the window sash, sitting flush along the frame.

Multi-layer timber sections working to prevent warping and twisting
Historically speaking, while timber windows have always been the traditional and most authentic choice for a home, they were prone to warping, twisting and rotting over time. They would quite often get stuck, and many were painted shut. There are many, original sash bay windows in London especially that are painted shut, and homeowners struggle with heat control and ventilation within their home, in addition to having concerns over security and access.
Engineered timber windows and doors have long been established in Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and have grown exponentially in the UK over the past 2 decades. Engineered timber places sections of timber with opposing grains next to one another, so as the wood naturally moves over time and especially during wet weather, this is cancelled out. Engineered timber has combated these warping and twisting issues of timber windows of old, ensuring you can have a truly authentic and beautiful window or door, without the historic drawbacks of the material. Timber is also a naturally strong and insulating material, which helps regulate the heat in your home further compared to timber alternative windows and doors. Furthermore, we offer a 30-year guarantee against rot or fungal infection, for complete peace of mind.

Superior, efficient, high clarity double-glazing
Our range utilises double glazed units with thermally insulating glass, which provides an extremely low U-value. We fill the cavity between the glass units with either Argon or Krypton (for our slimmer glazed units) gas to minimise edge losses. This results in a 1.1 W/m2K centre U-value. This provides a 45% increase in energy savings compared to ordinary double glazing. As our customer comments “The windows have made such a difference to the house, not only in their appearance but in how we noticed it was much warmer indoors this winter.” You can read their story here.
Furthermore, our high-performance double glazing not only provides superior thermal performance; it also gives much improved clarity, compared to traditional hard coated low e glass. This maximises the entry of natural light into your home, which you will really feel the benefit of during the periods of better weather in the UK.

Security for complete peace of mind
Our entire range is fitted with advanced security locks that wrap around the openers of our flush casement windows. Our lipped casements (otherwise known as stormproof windows) feature engage bolts in multiple points. All entrance doors are fitted with multi-point locking mechanisms, featuring hook-bolts and deadlock. For our sash windows, limit stops can be added for additional security and peace of mind. Our locking cylinders on our front doors are the highest security cylinders available on the market which feature several layers of protection to combat drilling, picking, bumping and extraction. All keys are patent protected to prevent any illegal copying and our locking cylinders are also PAS24 complaint.
With the Timber Windows range, security is at the forefront to give you complete peace of mind that your home is protected from both the elements, and any would-be intruders.

Specialist listed buildings range
