Home transformation

The transformation of this 1820’s cottage in a village outside York is quite remarkable.

The homeowners, Mr & Mrs Milton have taken a dreary, dark house and turned it into a fine example of how a cottage of its period, really should look.

“At some time in the past, the cottage was given dark sash windows, which were of poor quality – they rattled, had thin single glazing and were the source of many draughts” the couple explain.

Cottage casement windows and Staverton entrance door with toplight finished in 'French Grey', manufactured in Engineered European Redwood.

Fine Form

The homeowners opted for Cottage Flush Casements in order to suit the property, and to have change from what had been in place. They chose a French Grey finish with 18mm astragal glazing bars. The Staverton entrance door has the same colour finish, and is detailed with black ironmongery and leaded glass.

Noise and Heat benefits

“We’ve had the new windows and doors in for a year now, and have been through a winter too – we even turned the thermostat down as the house is so much warmer.”

This isn’t the only benefit that Mr & Mrs Milton have seen,

“although rural, we live on quite a busy, pass through road, and we barely hear anything from outside now, not even the rain!”
