Go with the grain
On the London and Essex border, the 1980s built home of Mr and Mrs Munday has received a welcome facelift.
Having moved in around five years earlier, the homeowners wanted to improve, enhance and update the house, to give it a lift.
“The original brief when the house was built was for an English country cottage combined with a New England design aesthetic, but over time, changes had been made that saw it drift from this”
Mr Munday explains.
Restoring the original look of the home
“We were keen to recapture the original style, and it was suggested by the Timber Windows team that some simple changes to window and door design, such as having less bars, would make it feel less Georgian and more in the intended style.”
Flush casement windows, French doorsets, and entrance doors were all chosen in the shade of “Canvas” and designed with simplified 18mm astragal bar formations.
“The design ideas we were offered were brilliant, and have really had a transformational effect.”
Kingston front door with sidelights, finished in the colour of “Canvas” and complemented by a Polished Stainless Steel Newbury lever and letterbox.
Improved functionality and comfort with timber windows
“Previously we couldn’t use some parts of the house, as the windows let in so many draughts; the changes have made a drastic improvement, now the house is comfortable.”
“We spent a lot of time deliberating the changes, and consulting with the Timber Windows team, to ensure we got it right. Initially we had planned to have the works carried out on half of the house only, as a test of sorts, but were so impressed that we did it all straight off.”
