New timber windows and doors for Cotswolds cottage
This beautiful home nestled in a tranquil Gloucestershire village, has been transformed in the year that new owners, the Jacobsons, have owned it.
This former bakehouse, dates to the 1700s and bears all the hallmarks of a typical Cotswold stone construction. The Jacobsons have undertaken an expansive program of renovations, all respecting the history and style of the building, including a new roof, redecorating throughout, a newly landscaped garden and the new windows and doors.
“In all aspects of the work we’ve had carried out on the house, in this past year, since moving in, I’ve conducted thorough research for potential companies to work with. I’ve always had at least three quotes for each required job”
Mrs Jacobson explains.
Cottage casement windows finished in a colour complementary to Farrow & Ball ‘Shadow White’ internally, with 18mm astragal glazing bars and Satin Stainless Steel Newbury hardware. Manufactured in Engineered European Redwood.
Repairing vs Replacing windows
“The old windows and doors were oak, only around ten years old, made locally and chosen by the previous owners, but they were all failing, falling apart, rotting, and requiring constant upkeep and attention. While we considered repairs, we found that the cost wasn’t significantly less than replacing them, and as we didn’t like them very much, we weren’t inclined to keep them.”
A simple change has made all the difference. Cottage casement windows, combined with bi-fold doors, French doors and single doors, finished in French Grey with an elegant horizontal astragal bar where appropriate, and satin stainless steel hardware, now adorn the cottage.

“Among all the works, many aspects over-ran the timescales we were quoted – for example, the roof was expected to be 4 weeks but took 3 months, and because of that, we pushed back the window and door installation.”
