As a professional photographer with a diverse range of clients, Mr. Alder has seen his fair share of houses through the lens, but specifically his fair share of Timber Windows customers’ houses. For the past fifteen years, Mr. Alder has been Timber Windows’ chosen photographer and has snapped almost every photo in our archive to date.

He and his wife live in this 1889 built, Victorian terrace in East Oxford.

“I’ve seen many hundreds of windows and doors in the homes of Timber Windows customers all over the country, across many years, and wanted to use them in my own home”
Mr. Alder is happy to say.

In need of some TLC

“It was a buy-to-let, student house when we bought it, greatly in need of some love. The windows were all badly fitted uPVC units with a very cheap wood door, all of which were draughty.”

“It was clear that the bay window had been replaced as cheaply as possible, with the original stone pillars being replaced by brick ones that didn’t match the London stock of the rest of the house.”

Restoring it to its former glory

Keen to return the appearance of the house to something much more in keeping with its intended style, the Alders were set on adding timber sash windows and a suitable front door, including revealing the blocked toplight area.

“We had always disliked the look of the front of the house, but never knew how to solve it without new stonework. Timber Windows advised us on the options, and we decided to do away with the brick pillars in favour of a fully timber constructed bay, concealing metal posts.”

A charming combination of ‘Calm Grey’ for the windows and ‘Urbane Grey’ for the front door, work perfectly against the tone of the brickwork.

“The internal finishing around the bay is really lovely and enhances the room.”

“The front of the house has been much admired by neighbours and passers-by.”

“Having carried out the work in two phases, tackling the straighter-forward parts first, we were really impressed with the fitting and the quality of the products.”

“The result is a modern looking, while also being traditional, bay window that gives more light into our living room.”

“Our heating bill has reduced by 15%”

“The road is quite busy, and the new windows have greatly cut down the noise.”
