Beauty at every turn
This breath-taking Essex home has been home to the Porter family for more than 40 years.
First shown on a map of the area in the 1770s, it was a long-time working farm.
“The old windows were of an unknown age, although we were certain they were fairly old, and had been repaired to keep them in working order over the years. Despite this, they were ultimately not proving to be very efficient”
Mrs Porter describes.
Repairing vs Replacing windows
The decision on retaining the old windows versus replacing was not an easy one for the homeowners,
“we had to figure out our sense of duty to the past, however we were also conscious of a responsibility to better insulate the house and make it more efficient for years to come.”
“We visited our local showroom a couple of times, and found the sales representative to be delightful, a real pleasure to deal with.”
Beautiful and traditional timber windows and doors
A substantial number of slim sash windows, casements, fixed frames and arched French doors were specified in the shade of “Smoke Cream”, alongside other French doors, a stable door and entrance doors in a colour complementary to Farrow & Ball “Lichen”.
“We’ve been thrilled with it all throughout, and have to say, it was the right decision to take”
Mrs Porter comments.
“The house feels better insulated and security improvements have also been important. We’ve made major enhancements to the building while feeling that it has all been in keeping with its history.”
